Visiting the Historic Environment Record (HER)

Please note that visitors to the Historic Environment Record must arrange an appointment, as space is limited.

The HER is accessible within Church Square House in Scunthorpe.

What facilities are available?

  • Access to our HBSMR database and GIS
  • A small library and aerial photograph collection
  • Photocopying

Heritage professionals visiting the HER

Consultants or contractors who are working on Environmental Statements or Desk-Based Assessments may need to visit the HER. We have material that is available only in paper form, or resources that are not included in commissioned searches, like Historic Mapping and Lidar data. There is no charge for consultants or contractors to use the HER in person.

What resources are available?

Visitors should consult the list of resources available at the north Lincolnshire HER [PDF, 25KB] prior to booking a visit. Our paper records are now held off-site outside Scunthorpe. We can retrieve material for a visit if you let us know what you require.

Please be aware that Development Management are scheduled to move to Church Square House, Scunthorpe on 8th February 2019. Please check beforehand to save any unnecessary journeys.

Opening hours –

Duty Officer hours will be changing to an appointment only basis week commencing 4th February 2019 and will be between 9-00am – 12-30pm Tuesday and Thursday mornings only.
