A review of speed limits on North Lincolnshire’s A and B roads has recommended the speed limit on the A18 into Scunthorpe – Mortal Ash Hill – be cut from the national speed limit to 50mph.
Around 25,500 journeys are made on the road every day, and reducing speed will cut accident risk and increase safety for all road users.
The new speed limit would apply from Forest Pines roundabout to the steelworks Gate A roundabout and residents are asked for their opinion on the plans by the end of the year.
Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for connectivity, said: “This decision has come about following discussions with our partners at Humberside Police and Safer Roads Humber.
“Mortal Ash Hill is one of our main arteries and we need to ensure travelling along it is as safe and smooth as possible.
“This reduction in speed will not only protect motorists but also reduce emissions in the area.”
Comments about the proposed plan can be sent to the Traffic Safety Team, Billet Lane, Normanby Enterprise Park, Scunthorpe DN15 9YH or traffic@northlincs.gov.uk before 2 January 2025.
