A targeted initiative to tackle dangerous driving in Burton upon Stather is getting underway, backed by a funding boost from North Lincolnshire Council.
A £3,159 grant has been awarded to Burton upon Stather Parish Council to install a new Speed Indicator Device (SID) on Stather Road – a busy route through the village where concerns about speeding have been growing.
The high-visibility device flashes a motorist’s speed as they approach, acting as a real-time reminder to slow down and drive responsibly. It’s a proven tool in changing driver behaviour and reducing risk and is coming to Burton upon Stather, thanks to this community-led safety push.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We’re proud to support this initiative. Speeding is a serious concern in many of our communities, and this new device will be a powerful deterrent. It’s about protecting people and creating safer neighbourhoods where families feel secure.”
Cllr Elaine Marper, cabinet member for transforming the customer journey, added: “By working with communities we are to support resident priorities and help work to deliver with them.”
North Lincolnshire Council’s Community Grant Fund delivers investment in junior and youth groups, charitable bodies, trusts, co-operatives, industrial and provident societies, not-for-profit constituted organisations, and town and parish councils. Individual grants are also available if you can demonstrate excellence in sport, art or culture. Junior and youth groups can also apply for grants for premises hire. Since 2011 when the grant was first upgraded, hundreds of projects have benefited from £millions in funding for communities right across North Lincolnshire.
