Hundreds of North Lincolnshire households who rely on heating oil will receive £300 support to help with rising heating and energy costs.
The council-backed support comes after sharp increases in heating oil prices left many rural households facing much higher heating bills.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Residents should not be left behind simply because they are off the gas grid.
“We know many households have faced significant increases in heating oil costs and for some residents, particularly older people and those on fixed incomes, those rises have caused real concern.
“While some councils have offered very limited support, we have been as generous as possible with the funding allocated to North Lincolnshire because we know the pressure many rural households are under. These are the choices we make as a council about the things that matter most to residents.”
Eligible households who previously registered their interest are now being contacted with further details, though applications remain open.
Heating oil prices rose sharply earlier this year following international market disruption, with many rural households having little choice but to rely on oil deliveries to heat their homes.
Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for sustainability and transformation, said: “The sudden increase in heating oil prices came as a real financial shock and left many households, particularly those on fixed incomes, struggling with higher costs.
“We have implemented this scheme as intended, but enhanced it through the choices we have made locally to provide more meaningful support for North Lincolnshire residents.
“We have gone over and above to make sure more money reaches households who need help with rising heating costs.”
If you use heating oil to heat your home and want to apply for the scheme, register your interest through the council portal.
If you need help completing the form, you can also visit your local community hub where staff will support you to get registered.
Successful applications will receive the £300 payment directly into their bank account.
