Children in Messingham can now climb, swing, spin and explore more than ever thanks to a brand new £50,000 village play area.

Messingham Parish Council is using the funding to install a range of exciting new play equipment at the playing field on Northfield Road – with cash coming from the SSE grant, the parish and North Lincolnshire Council’s community grants.

The new additions, aimed at younger children, include a bowl spinner, basket swing, trampoline, adventure trail, zebra see-saw, frog playhouse and a large multi-play treehouse with slides. A tractor and hay cart play feature will also add a fun rural twist.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Play areas are incredibly important community spaces where children can have fun, make friends and stay active.

“This investment will give local families a fantastic new facility right on their doorstep and is exactly the kind of project our community grant fund was created to support.

“It’s great to see Messingham Parish Council responding to what residents have asked for and creating a play area that children will enjoy for many years to come.”

The new equipment will sit alongside the existing play area, and comes in response to requests from local families for newer and more varied equipment, so children can enjoy fun, high-quality facilities close to home.

The parish council also plans to install colourful recycled benches within the play area, creating a welcoming space for parents, grandparents and carers to relax while children play.

Since launching in 2011, the council’s community grant fund has supported hundreds of projects across the area, helping communities improve local facilities, deliver new activities and create spaces where people can come together.
