A well-used Bottesford sports hall has been transformed into a warmer, more modern, and more flexible venue for local clubs, groups, families, and residents.
North Lincolnshire Council awarded Bottesford Town Football Club a £59,744 community grant towards a wider £300,000 programme of improvements at Bottesford Sports Hall, helping secure the future of a much-loved community facility.
For more than 35 years, the hall has played an important role in local sporting and community life, giving people a place to train, compete, stay active, and come together.
From badminton, six-a-side football and futsal to netball, martial arts, boxing and competitive dancing, the upgraded hall will give people of all ages a better place to enjoy sport and activity close to home.
The improvements also mean local families, groups and residents can now use the space for birthdays, weddings, parties, and other celebrations, with new communal space and an internal marquee facility making the main hall more flexible.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of the council, said: “This is exactly what our community grants are about, backing local people, local clubs and the places that matter to them.
“Bottesford Sports Hall has served the community for more than three decades and this investment means it can continue to do that for many years to come.
“It is a place where people of all ages can stay active, build confidence, be part of a team and spend time together, and the improvements made will make a real difference to the clubs, families and residents who use it.”
The project has included new heating and hot water systems, LED lighting, improved changing and shower facilities, refurbished flooring, upgraded security and refreshed communal spaces.
A new Changing Places room has also been created, improving accessibility for people with additional needs and their families.
The works build on previous energy-saving improvements, including the installation of solar panels, helping reduce running costs and make the hall more sustainable for the future.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for Ashby, Bottesford and Scunthorpe, said: “Bottesford Sports Hall is an important community facility, and these improvements have made it fit for the future.
“This is not just about upgrading a building. It is about giving local clubs and residents better facilities, protecting a valued venue, and making sure people have opportunities to be active close to home.
“The club has worked hard to bring this project together and it is fantastic to see the difference it is already making for the community.”
Bottesford Town Football Club has managed and operated the hall since 2015, with the latest improvements helping protect a valued local facility and ensure clubs, groups and residents can continue to make use of it for years to come.
