3,000 children have taken part in free swimming sessions across the six pools in North Lincolnshire.

The figures come after only two weeks of the council’s boredom-busting Summer Daze.

Free swimming sessions are back once again for the school summer holidays in North Lincolnshire.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We know these sessions are popular, but the numbers so far are incredible – it is great to see children taking full advantage of the offer, exercising in the pool and enjoying themselves safely.”

And Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and communities, said: “As well as helping young people have healthier lifestyles, swimming is an essential life skill that can save lives.

“These sessions are amazing and I would encourage people to take advantage of the sessions across the coming weeks.”

The free swimming sessions started on Saturday 20 July and run all the way to Monday 4 September – children aged 16 and under can swim for free during any Summer Daze session at North Lincolnshire leisure centres.

The sessions are available at the The Pods in Scunthorpe, Ancholme Leisure Centre in Brigg, Axholme North Leisure Centre in Crowle, Baysgarth Community Hub in Barton upon Humber and Riddings Community Hub. North Lincolnshire Council also fund the free swimming sessions at Epworth Swimming Pool.
