Older residents will be soon be able to visit leisure facilities for free after an announcement in yesterday’s council budget.
A free two-month pass will enable them to visit facilities where they can get fit and active.
The passes will be valid for two months any time over a twelve-month period.
The budget also protects free public transport for older residents, and confirmed bus passes will be valid at any time of the day – unlike many other councils, which have time restrictions.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Older people have had it hard over the winter and as a council we wanted to give something back. The free leisure passes will help them keep fit and active, meet others and maybe find an activity they like and continue with.
“Public transport is a lifeline for many residents and we are one of a few councils in the country that have free bus passes available throughout the day with no time restrictions. This has been protected.
“Care services for those that need support will have extra funding – keeping people living independently in their own homes.
“This is on top of the free air fryer project with 8,000 older residents getting a brand-new appliance that can save on their energy bills and help them cook more healthily. Thousands have already been delivered, and we are working hard to get the rest in people’s hands as soon as we can.
“As well as being able to access the offers available within Live Well Hubs, that have seen big investments and transformation and free car parking too.”
