North Lincolnshire will pay tribute to the fallen this year on Remembrance Sunday, November 10, commencing with a military parade.
The parade will gather outside The Baths Hall on Doncaster Road, Scunthorpe, at 10.10am and will begin its procession at 10.25am.
Participants are invited to join for tea and coffee at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe at 9.30am or to assemble outside the venue from 10am.
The parade, featuring serving personnel, veterans, military organizations, and uniformed groups, will proceed along Doncaster Road to the Cenotaph located outside the North Lincolnshire Museum on Oswald Road. The service is set to commence at 10.45am.
An Act of Remembrance will take place, including a two-minute silence at 11am, followed by wreath laying at the Cenotaph.
Following the wreath laying, the parade will march back to The Baths Hall via Vicarage Gardens.
Cllr Janet Longcake, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, who will lay a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of North Lincolnshire, said: “I am honoured to participate in the annual Remembrance Day Parade, contributing in any way I can to express our immense gratitude to the armed forces and veterans, both past and present.
“I look forward to seeing communities coming together to pay tribute.”
A minibus will be available for members of the Armed Forces community who are unable to return to The Baths Hall on foot.
After the service, The Baths Hall will welcome those who wish to gather for refreshments.
The North Lincolnshire Council has collaborated with the Royal British Legion Scunthorpe Branch and the 146 Divisional Support Company REME to organize this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service.
Cllr Elaine Marper, the Armed Forces champion for North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The armed forces have devotedly safeguarded us for countless years, and it is only fitting that we celebrate and express our gratitude for their ongoing contributions.
“The council takes pride in its dedication to assisting military personnel, veterans, and their families in line with the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
“We will continue to support them and honour their sacrifice.”
Free parking is available in town centre car parks.
Please be aware that road closures will be effective on Doncaster Road, Oswald Road, Vicarage Gardens, and Exeter Road on the day from 10am to 12pm.
