Players and visitors at Railway Bowls Club will soon enjoy a more welcoming and accessible clubhouse as work begins on a major extension.
The improvements – including new toilets and a kitchen – will make the space more comfortable and practical for matches, social events and community gatherings thanks to a £30,000 grant from North Lincolnshire Council.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is a really exciting development for Railway Bowls Club and the wider community. The new facilities will make the clubhouse more welcoming and practical, encouraging more people to get involved in the sport and enjoy the social side of club life.
“Our Community Grant Fund is all about helping local groups grow and thrive, and this is a fantastic example of that in action.”
The funding, awarded through the council’s Community Grant Fund, will enable the club, based off Church Lane in Scunthorpe, to carry out a major extension, including new toilets and a kitchen area.
These improvements will ensure the clubhouse is more accessible, comfortable, and better equipped to support both competitive matches and community gatherings.
Since launching in 2011, the Community Grant Fund has pumped millions into grassroots projects across the region – from sports clubs and youth groups to charities and parish councils – helping to strengthen communities and support local talent.
Grants are available for junior and youth groups, charitable bodies, co-operatives, not-for-profit organisations, and individuals demonstrating excellence in sport, art, or culture. Support is also available for venue hire, helping keep community spaces open and active.
