NL Active's SwimLincs programme helps children learn and develop skills and become confident and safe in water.

NL Active Logo

Swimming is an important life skill and our SwimLincs learn to swim programme helps children learn new skills and become confident and safe in water. Whether you’re a non-swimmer (seahorse) an intermediate (dolphin) or have a water baby (starfish) at home, we have a programme for you!

Our lessons run for 50 weeks of the year with each lesson lasting 30 minutes, of which a minimum of 25 minutes will be water-based activities.

SwimLincs

Sign up to the SwimLincs home portal to check the availability of lessons and enrol your child, monitor their progress, and move them up a class when prompted. The ‘How to enrol onto the SwimLincs learn to swim programme’ section below gives a step-by-step guide to help you get set up. If you have any issues please contact swimlincs@northlincs.gov.uk.

If you are an existing SwimLincs member you can login here. Choose ‘Existing member’ from the options and login using the email address we have registered for your child.

We no longer have a waiting list for swimming lessons as the SwimLincs home portal allows you to go online to see what spaces are available and book your place straight away.

We advise that you (as the parent / guardian) set up an account on LeisureHub prior to completing the steps below or log into your account if you’re an existing user.

When you click on the SwimLincs home portal link you’ll see this screen:

Once you click checkout you will be asked to log in to your account, or if you haven’t already got an account you’ll be asked to register.

If you’re registering for the first time you’ll be taken to LeisureHub to complete this process. When adding your details please make sure that you use the details of the parent and not the child. Please be aware that if the home address you register with is different to the address that your bank has on file for you it may cause issues when setting up your Direct Debit. Once you’ve registered you can return to the SwimLincs home portal to complete the transaction. When you return to the site you’ll see the confirmation of the class that you have chosen and at this stage you can add the details of the child who is swimming.

Screenshot of SwimLincs home portal

When you choose to ‘Add new member’ you’ll be asked to fill in the details of the child swimming. You’ll also be asked whether the child has any medical conditions we need to be aware of, asked how you’d like to receive news from us (please tick email as that’s how we will normally contact you about your lessons), and to agree to the SwimLincs Terms & Conditions.

Screenshot of SwimLincs home portal

You’ll then be shown a confirmation of your class choice and a payment summary which will show the monthly Direct Debit amount of £21, but the cost to pay today depending on what stage of the month you’re signing up for lessons. You’ll then be taken back to LeisureHub for the Direct Debit payment to be processed.

Once you have signed up for your swimming lesson you’ll be sent an welcome email with information on your first visit and what to expect. The first time you visit you’ll need to check in at reception so that you can collect your child’s membership card which will need to be produced in order to swim for free in our casual sessions.

Our swimming lessons run back to back so unfortunately there is no time for you to talk to your child’s swimming teacher during lesson time. If you have a question or would like to discuss your child’s progress we would ask that you complete a ‘Question and Answer’ form. The forms are available from the customer service desk in the centre or you can submit your questions online. The SwimLincs team will contact you as soon as possible regarding your question.

SwimLincs Home Portal

You can view your child’s progress online using our SwimLincs Home Portal. When you log in to your account and go to ‘overview’ you’ll see the teaching criteria and the competencies your child is working towards.

We’ve pulled together some feedback to the questions that you’ve been asking recently. If you have any specific questions or feedback, please submit it via our online form or you can collect a feedback form from the front of house team at the centre your child swims at.

How often will my child be assessed?

Your child will be assessed once a month to ensure they are progressing through the badge criteria, with a focus on their personal strengths and learning needs. To keep track of their progress, you can use the SwimLincs home portal here, which provides real time updates on their achievements.

There is a lack of consistency and continuity with my child’s swimming lessons.

While our instructors may occasionally be unavailable due to annual leave or illness, we have a fantastic team of qualified teachers who step in to ensure lessons remain consistent and engaging for your child.

My child does not seem to be progressing, their % has not changed on the portal?

Every child learns at their own pace, and it’s natural for progress to vary. Rest assured, our instructors tailor lessons to meet each child’s abilities, ensuring they continue to develop skills and build confidence in the water.

How can I communicate with my child’s teacher to find out how they are progressing?

We understand how important it is to stay updated on your child’s progress, which is why we offer teacher Q&A forms in all our facilities for you to submit questions directly to instructors. We also have a digital version of the form, which you can access by clicking here.

Will my child receive distance badges in their swimming lessons?

Absolutely! We’ve made it possible for distance badges to be included in swimming lessons, giving your child more goals to aim for. Be sure to have a look at the badge criteria for more information.

How can I improve my child’s swimming?

Practice makes progress! The more your child swims, the faster they’ll improve and the more confident they’ll feel. Don’t forget, your direct debit membership includes free causal swimming sessions, so grab those goggles and dive in for some extra practice and fun!

SwimLincs learn to swim lessons – £21 per month paid by Direct Debit. This price includes:

  • one SwimLincs lesson per week for 50 weeks of the year
  • automatic re-enrolment (terms and conditions apply)
  • price for life (terms and conditions apply)
  • the SwimLincs student is entitled to use any NL Active swimming pool free of charge during casual swim sessions so that they can practice their swimming

Please report to the customer service desk 20 minutes before the start of your child’s first lesson. This will allow us time to get you set up, answer any questions you may have regarding the lessons, explain who your child’s swimming teacher is, and direct you to the changing rooms and waiting area.

Buoyancy aids will be provided for the duration of the lesson if needed and goggles are available to purchase from the customer service desk before the start of your child’s lesson.

The swimming teacher will take a register at the start of each lesson and collect your child from the designated waiting area.

Our aim is to provide the best learn to swim experience for your child and for you as the ones bringing them to the pool. To help us achieve this aim we would be grateful if you would adhere to the following code of conduct.

Swimmers are asked to:

  • arrive in good time for the lesson
  • when changed, wait quietly in the designated area no more than five minutes before the start of your lesson for the swimming teacher to collect you
  • wear suitable swimwear and tie long hair back

  • not eat or drink fizzy or sugary drinks up to one hour before the start of your lesson
  • listen to your swimming teacher and ask if you do not understand their instructions
  • always try your best and enjoy your lesson

Parents and guardians are asked to:

  • make sure your child arrives in good time for the start of their lesson and is collected promptly after the lesson
  • remain in the building at all times if your child is under the age of eight
  • not to wait or walk on to poolside
  • use lockers provided and not leave personal belongings in the changing cubicles
  • not approach the swimming teacher during lessons. If you have a question about your child’s progress please complete a ‘Question and Answer’ form, submit any questions online, or you can view their progress by accessing our Swimlincs Home Portal
  • view your child’s lesson in the designated spectator area and not on poolside or the changing rooms.
  • not to bring your child if they feel ill or have been ill in the last 48 hours with diarrhoea, a sickness bug, a contagious disease (for example measles or chicken pox), an ear infection, open wounds, coughs or colds. It is advisable that they do not swim until fully recovered and symptom free
  • ensure that your child does not eat or drink at least one hour before their lesson.
  • be consistent with attending lessons
  • ensure that your details are kept up to date on the SwimLincs home portal
  • respect our swimming teachers and share any concerns or complaints with your swimming teacher, our front of house team, or Duty Manager immediately.

We thank you for your assistance and cooperation.
