Avalon Mill Equestrian in Belton has been awarded £5,000 through North Lincolnshire Council’s Positive Activities grant scheme to run a 30-week fun and educational after-school programme.
The funding will enable weekly equestrian sessions, open to young people aged 11 to 19, and up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities. A total of ten places are available.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is another example of how we are investing in our young people, making sure they have safe, positive things to do in their local community. By supporting groups like Avalon Mill Equestrian, we can provide opportunities that build skills, confidence, and connections.”
As part of the weekly pony club, participants will learn a range of skills including caring for horses, clipping and grooming, handling, and stable and pasture management. They will also gain knowledge of different types of equipment and feeding.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children and families, said: “Opportunities like this can make a real difference in the lives of young people. Learning responsibility and teamwork through activities such as caring for horses helps develop important life skills. This is part of our wider commitment to supporting young people across North Lincolnshire with safe, positive activities.”
This funding is part of a wider programme of Positive Activities grants being delivered across North Lincolnshire, supporting community organisations to create safe spaces where young people can make friends, develop new interests and access support when needed.
