A new 4G floodlit Astro football pitch has been officially opened in Broughton, marking a major milestone and a boost for local sport and community life.
Plans for the state-of-the-art pitch were first raised 11 years ago, and the project has been supported by North Lincolnshire Council funding, alongside donations and community fundraising.
The ribbon was cut by Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, together with Sean Clixby, chair of Broughton Community and Sport Association.
Cllr Waltham said: “This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the council and local communities work together. Expanding sporting activities across the county is one of the biggest priorities for the council.
“The new pitch and improvements around the recreation field will leave a lasting legacy – supporting young people, encouraging active lifestyles and strengthening community pride.”
The high-quality facility on Scawby Road is home to Broughton Ravers, one of the largest junior football clubs in North Lincolnshire.
Sean Clixby added: “This has been a long time coming and a lot of hard work. The council have been a big support and have been right behind us.
“It has been a real community effort, and it will be there for the community for generations to come. “
As well as the new pitch, the area also features new trees and hedges, fencing and a noticeboard, creating a welcoming space for players, families and visitors.
