Thousands of children jumped into free swimming sessions across North Lincolnshire over the Easter holidays as the council’s popular Easter Daze programme returned for another successful year.

More than 2,000 swims were enjoyed during the holiday period, helping families stay active, have fun and save money at what can be a costly time of year.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council said, “We are very proud to support schemes like free swimming, which make a real difference for parents and grandparents during the cost‑of‑living crisis. School holidays can place extra pressure on family budgets, and initiatives like this help ensure children can stay active and have fun without adding financial strain.

“Supporting families is a clear priority for us, and we will continue to invest in schemes that help families, whether that is the Imagination Library book scheme which provides a free book each month, the Fuelled Christmas and summer play schemes, reduced‑cost leisure offers for young people in our leisure centres, or the Words Count and Reading Challenge delivered through our libraries. All of these help families make the most of their time together while keeping children healthy and safe.”

North Lincolnshire’s Easter Daze free swimming programme ran from 3 April to 20 April and allowed children under the age of 16 to swim for free at six pools across the area: The Pods, Riddings Community Hub, Ancholme Leisure Centre, Axholme North Leisure Centre, Baysgarth Community Hub and Epworth Swimming Pool.

Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural) said, “It is brilliant to see children and families once again making the most of the free-swimming sessions across our venues during the Easter holidays.

“As we all know, school holidays can be an expensive time for parents, and it can be difficult to plan activities. That is why investing in programmes like this is such a priority for the council. Not only does it keep children active, but it also provides a great opportunity to socialise and have fun.”

Parents are also reminded that open water can be extremely dangerous, particularly for children, and that swimming should always take place in safe, supervised environments such as local swimming pools.
