Residents are being invited to share their views on measures to protect people and rid public spaces of street drinking, intimidation, dog fouling, and other nuisance behaviour.
The council is seeking to extend and expand the scope of the hard-hitting measures that make up the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).
A new proposal would require owners to put and keep a dog disturbing other residents or animals on a lead when asked by enforcement officers.
All 19 of the current measures would also return, with those that breach the rules liable to be hit with a fine of up to £1,000.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for community wellbeing (urban – Ashby, Bottesford and Scunthorpe), said:
“Our message is clear: anti-social behaviour has no place in our community. No one should have to face intimidation as they go about their daily lives.
“These types of nuisance behaviours are a blight which we are determined to stamp out. We’ve made excellent progress but for our crackdown to continue, we really need people to share their views.”
Residents are encouraged to have their say on the proposals before the consultation closes on Sunday 29 September 2024.
