A raft of investments that will help local residents have been announced by North Lincolnshire Council at its budget meeting today.
An unprecedented extra £3m will be invested in improving roads, paths and preventing flooding. Half a million pounds will be used to improve parks, play areas and community buildings across the area.
Pensioners in North Lincolnshire are to receive a boost to keep them fit and active after the council agreed to fund free access to the area’s leisure facilities for two months and every gym will be getting new fitness equipment. Free swimming for children in Easter and summer holidays has been guaranteed.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“I am delighted that we have been able to announce some major investments that will make a real difference to our residents and at the same time keep council tax down.
“We will give older residents free use of our leisure facilities, they have suffered over the winter months, we invest millions more in roads, parks and other community facilities and keep council tax low – with a general increase of 2.89 percent alongside the adult’s levy of two percent – which will be the lowest increase in the region.
“The budget is also good news for our younger generation – free books for every child under 5 from our Imagination Library scheme has been protected, youth services will be improved and a new school built in Winterton.
“We will also continue to focus on creating jobs in the area, investing in support for businesses and helping entrepreneurs set up new businesses.
“This is a budget that focuses on residents’ priorities and also invests in the area’s future growth.”
