A major community event, Brigg Passion Play, is taking place on Good Friday, 3 April 2026 transforming Brigg town centre into an open-air stage.

Starting outside St John’s Church on Wrawby Street at 11am, the performance will move through Brigg’s Market Place before finishing at County Bridge.

Organised by local charity Oikos, the Brigg Passion Play represents one of the most significant community-led cultural events in the town’s calendar. Building on the success of previous productions in 2007 and 2013, which attracted thousands of spectators, this year’s event is set to be the largest and most ambitious yet.

With more than 100 local residents involved both on stage and behind the scenes, the production showcases the strength of community spirit across Brigg and the wider North Lincolnshire area.

Participants of all ages and backgrounds including local businesses, schools, churches, and community groups have come together to prepare for the retelling of the final days of Jesus’ life.

Brigg Passion Play highlights the vital role that arts, culture, and community collaboration play in strengthening local identity and wellbeing.

The 2026 production is being led by well-known local creatives Darren Johnson and Lizi Welch, whose experience in community theatre is helping to deliver a high-quality and engaging performance rooted in local talent and storytelling.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council is delighted to support the return of Brigg Passion Play, he said:

“It’s a brilliant example of community collaboration, bringing people together to celebrate Brigg’s unique character. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a fantastic and memorable experience during the Easter period, which is a time when families come together.

“Oikos does incredible work, and I would encourage local residents and visitors to watch this performance. Afterwards, why not stay in Brigg to explore its fantastic independent shops, cafés and restaurants, learn more about the town’s history, or enjoy a walk along the River Ancholme.”
