Older people across North Lincolnshire are set to benefit from a new season of support, as North Lincolnshire Council launches a series of community events designed to help residents stay active, healthy and connected.

The events, taking place across the region as part of Active Ageing Week (6 to 12 October), will give people aged over 66 the opportunity to get expert advice on health, wellbeing and financial support, try new activities and find out what’s on offer locally to stay independent and well.

Residents will also be able to access free winter warm packs, sign up for low-energy appliances to cut household bills or collect their appliances if they have already signed up and been contacted.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is about giving older people the support they deserve – practical help, advice and opportunities to stay active and independent.

“These events are a great example of how we’re making support more accessible – bringing health checks, expert advice and free resources straight into the heart of our communities.”

From blood pressure checks and fitness advice to carers’ support, dementia services and safer neighbourhoods, the events will bring together a wide range of partners in one place, including:

  • Healthy Lifestyles – free blood pressure checks
  • Active Lifestyles – ‘Fit for Free’ offer, InBody health scanner, referral support
  • Barclays Bank – digital skills and fraud awareness
  • Post Office – advice and support
  • Age UK Lincolnshire – services and activities
  • Mature Driving Programme – safer driving tips for older motorists
  • Carers Support Service – support for unpaid carers
  • Alzheimer’s Society – advice and local support
  • Safer Neighbourhoods – community safety information
  • Library and Community Hubs – activities, digital skills and learning opportunities
  • Free tea and coffee for all visitors

By visiting four of the stalls you can receive a winter warm pack, these will be available for the first 50 visitors at each of the main events and include items such as a blanket, flask, hat and gloves.

Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for sustainability and transformation, said: “These events are all about encouraging older people to stay engaged, look after their health and take advantage of the wide-ranging support available to them.

“Whether it’s getting a health check, trying a new activity or picking up practical items to stay warm this winter, the aim is to help people feel more confident, connected and in control of their wellbeing.”
