Report a problem with street lights

The Council is responsible for the installation and maintenance of around 24,500 lights and lamp posts in North Lincolnshire.

In addition there are around 1,500 illuminated traffic signs and bollards to look after.

Warning In an emergency, outside normal office hours contact 01724 276444.

This might include:

  • three or more street light columns in a row not working
  • street light column damaged
  • cover plate missing and/or wires exposed
  • street light head hanging off
  • traffic bollard knocked down or missing.

Before you start

You’ll need to provide:

  • An accurate location for the problem
  • A description of the problem
  • Your contact details, if you want updates.

You can report an issue to us online, using our dedicated form, or you can contact us by phone, on 01724 297000.

What happens next

We send a member of the lighting team to every defect that’s reported to us and prioritise repairs based on a risk assessment.

We try to repair street lighting issues within five working days, but aim to attend emergencies within two hours of receiving a report.

There are exceptions to this, such as where traffic management is needed to ensure the safety of workers.

If there is an electrical supply problem where the Distribution Network Operator is responsible for supply, the target is 25 working days.

If the defect does not fit within our guidelines we may not repair it, but we will continue to monitor it through routine inspections.
