Essential repairs at Ancholme Leisure Centre main pool – all other facilities remain open

The main swimming pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre will be temporarily closed for up to six weeks to allow for urgent and complex repair work following a critical mechanical fault.

The small pool, gym, and all other exercise and sports areas remain open and unaffected.

Why is the main pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre having to close?

We’ve had to temporarily close the main pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre due to a critical mechanical fault in the filtration system. An essential valve has failed and, unfortunately, it can’t be repaired or replaced without fully draining the pool.

Our team explored every possible solution to avoid disruption, including the use of specialist inflatable bungs. However, after thorough engineering assessments, it was confirmed that a complete drain-down is the only safe way to carry out the necessary repairs.

We understand this will be disappointing for Ancholme Leisure Centre swimmers, and we’re working hard to make these repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

How long will the main pool be closed for?

We anticipate that the main pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre could remain closed for up to six weeks. This timeline allows for:

  • Draining the pool
  • Completing the complex repairs
  • Refilling, reheating, and rebalancing the water

The reason that the draining of the pool takes so long is because it’s a delicate process that must be done slowly to avoid serious damage. The water inside the swimming pool helps balance external pressure, so draining it too fast can lead to structural failure. On top of that, we need to work with Anglian Water and carefully dispose of the pool water to avoid overloading local sewer systems.

In the meantime, the training pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre remains open as usual, and you can view the pool timetable for it and other NL Active swimming pools on our website.

Is the smaller training pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre open

Yes, the smaller training pool remains open as normal, and you can find the pool timetable on our website.

SwimLincs swimming lessons and Academy training

SwimLincs lessons in the smaller training pool are going ahead as normal. Swimmers who have lessons in the main pool can choose to either suspend their lessons until the main pool reopens or move their swimming lessons to another NL Active pool, subject to availability.

All swimmers who have lessons in the main pool will have received an email, and the team will be telephoning everyone to either move or suspend their lessons.

SwimLincs Academy swimmers will be able to train at NL Active Riddings whilst the main pool at Ancholme is closed. The team will be contacting everyone to discuss plans moving forward.
