North Lincolnshire’s Young Mayor, 16-year-old Levi Bonnett, will take on the Ironstone Walk around Scunthorpe on Saturday 24 August to raise awareness and money for Scunthorpe Samaritans.
Starting at the Nutshell Café in Central Park at 10am, Levi will be joined by the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Rob Waltham, ward members from both parties, and volunteers from the Samaritans.
The 10-mile circular Ironstone Walk route takes in the Ridge Walk, Manor Park, Greenacre Park, Bottesford Beck and Ashbyville, linking Scunthorpe’s green spaces with its industrial heritage.
As well as raising money for the Samaritans during the walk, the group will also be litter picking along the route.
Young Mayor, Levi Bonnett, said he decided to tackle the Ironstone Walk in aid of Scunthorpe Samaritans after visiting the branch shortly after he was elected. He said:
“When I met with the Scunthorpe Samaritans, I had the opportunity to tour the local branch, discuss the work of the Samaritans and outline my ideas as Young Mayor – a charity walk being one of them.
“The Scunthorpe Samaritans work tirelessly throughout North Lincolnshire and across the country, and I strongly believe that the Ironstone Walk is a great way of bringing together our local community to say thank you for the incredible work that they do throughout the area.
“All are very much welcome to join us on the walk on Saturday.”
