Exhibitions from some of the region’s favourite museums and galleries are being brought to life online.

The revamped Humber Museums Partnership website, a collaboration between Hull City Council, East Riding Council and North Lincolnshire Council, digitally hosts exhibitions and showcases the region’s unique collections giving people the opportunity to enjoy art, history and culture from their own home.

Digital exhibitions and new online galleries from the Hull and East Riding Museum, Hull Maritime Museum, Ferens Art Gallery, Wilberforce House Museum and Streetlife Museum in Hull, North Lincolnshire Museum in Scunthorpe and Treasure House Museum and Beverley Art Gallery all feature on the revamped website.

Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for safer communities at North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“It is fantastic to see collaborative working between North Lincolnshire Council, Hull City Council and East Riding Council. History and heritage is such an important part of North Lincolnshire and we celebrate it at our museum in Scunthorpe and also at Normanby Hall Country Park.

“Residents will be able to see exhibitions such as Animals at Home, There and Back Again and 776BC The First Olympics, as well as updates about current projects being undertaken here in North Lincolnshire.”

A digital version of the popular Open Exhibition, held annually at Ferens Art Gallery, but cut short this year due to lockdown, will feature on the website with 380 images from this year’s popular showcase.

Cllr Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said:

“Everyone is having to adjust and make sacrifices as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We know that many people are struggling with not being able to visit their favourite museums and galleries, so I’m delighted that people can enjoy some of our fantastic exhibitions online.”

Cllr Shaun Horton, portfolio holder for tourism, culture and leisure at East Riding Council, said :

“The East Riding Museums Service and its visitors gain hugely from the partnership with Hull Museums and North Lincolnshire Museums, known as the Humber Museums Partnership, and the Arts Council England funding which it brings, so East Riding Council is delighted by this relaunch of the Humber Museums Partnership website.”

The site also includes a From the Stores section, where online visitors can engage with permanent and popular collections through curator films and blog posts.

A series of ongoing digital project blogs and posts will also be featured, allowing online visitors to go behind the scenes, providing curator insights on their collections and research, as well as opportunities for online visitors to get involved in developing new exhibitions for the website.
