Four parks in Scunthorpe and Barton upon Humber have been recognised among the UK’s very best green spaces and have each retained their prestigious Green Flag Award status.
The following parks in North Lincolnshire have been recognised by the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Award scheme once again as some of the very best in the world:
- Baysgarth Park, Barton upon Humber
- Central Park, Scunthorpe
- Kingsway Gardens, Scunthorpe
- Woodlands Memorial Gardens, Scunthorpe
These parks are among a record-breaking 1,970 UK parks and green spaces and 131 in 13 other countries around the world.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Kingsway Gardens and Woodlands Memorial Gardens have received the award for 12 years running, with Central Park holding its award for three years, and two years for Baysgarth Park.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for environment and community wellbeing, said:
“We are delighted to receive not one but four Green Flag Awards for our parks once again this year. We are hugely proud of our parks and green spaces in North Lincolnshire.
“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and these awards celebrate the dedication that goes into maintaining our parks to such a high standard. They are a credit to the ground maintenance staff and volunteers who work hard all year round to keep the parks looking their best.”
International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said:
“It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag Awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 131 international winners.
“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We congratulate each and every winner on their fantastic achievement.”
