North Lincolnshire bed and breakfast owners Petra Coates and Martin Littlefield are to feature on reality TV show Four in a Bed this week.

The couple, who own Villa Farm Cottage in Thornton Curtis, will be putting their 18th Century venue up against three rivals from across the country in the popular Channel 4 show.

The contestants, all fellow B&B owners, stay in each other’s accommodation and rate it at the end of their visit.

The show runs every night for a week and on the final day, the contestants pay what they think their stay was worth.

Despite filming from 8am until midnight on some days, Petra, who is a member of the North Lincolnshire Tourism Partnership, said it was a wonderful experience. She said:

“I wouldn’t have missed it for anything, it was lots of fun and the experience of a lifetime.”

The programme was filmed before the coronavirus outbreak, but transmission has been delayed until accommodation venues could reopen.

She and her fellow contestants went for a day out at Welton Waters on the North Bank, and filming also took place at Thornton Abbey, St Lawrence’s church at Thornton Curtis, the Humber Bridge and Walcot Hall near Alkborough.

“It will be a great promotion for the business,” said Petra, who has refused to give anything away about the show winners. “As we are in such a rural location we aren’t easily found by people.”

Four in a Bed will be screened every night this week on Channel 4 at 5pm. Villa Farm Cottage is featured on Thursday 9 July.
