North Lincolnshire Council is urging residents in North Lincolnshire to nominate unsung heroes in their community for a 2019 Community Champion Award.

Now in its eighth year, the Community Champion Awards is taking place on Thursday 28 November 2019 at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe.

Is there an individual or group that deserves recognition for their work in the local community?

There are four awards in the community category sponsored by North Lincolnshire Council:

Community Champion of the Year sponsored by Jotun Paints (Europe)
Nominate an individual of any age who volunteers their time to make a real difference to a community. Tell us why they are your community champion. They may support the vulnerable in your community or just be the one who keeps everyone informed.

Outstanding Contribution to Safer Community sponsored by National Online Safety
Nominate a group or individual of any age who works to keep your community safe. For example:

  • a resident’s association or neighbourhood watch group
  • lifestyle groups who may have worked to tidy up an area
  • police volunteers
  • a group of community members who organised sport sessions to give the young people something positive to do

Outstanding Contribution to a Learning Community sponsored by John Leggott College
Nominate a group or individual of any age that makes your school or college a great place to learn. For example:

  • An individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty to support your learning by running after school clubs
  • A dinner lady, learning mentor or nursery worker who has gone the extra mile to make you feel safe, welcome and ready to learn at your school, nursery or college
  • Making the community accessible

Outstanding Contribution to a Stronger Community sponsored by Scunthorpe Telegraph
Nominate a group or individual of any age that makes your community a vibrant, lively, exciting and stimulating place to live. They may provide festivals or events where people can meet and socialise. Tell us how their contribution has had a positive impact on the community.

Nominate your Community Champions online, where you can also find out more details.

If you are not able to nominate online, call 01724 297000 during office hours or email community.recreation@northlincs.gov.uk for a form.

The closing date for nominations is 30 September 2019.

Cllr John Briggs, Chair of the Community Champions Award Committee, said:

“The Community Champion Awards is a truly wonderful occasion that recognises heroes from across our communities in North Lincolnshire. Every year I am in awe of the fantastic nominations we receive. However, I am positive there are more people who deserve to be awarded for their achievements.

“With only a few weeks left to nominate, I’m urging people to nominate individuals or groups who they think deserve an award. It is easy to nominate at www.northlincs.gov.uk/champion.”
