A new artificial training facility is now in use at Barton Town Cricket Club, thanks to a £37,000 investment from North Lincolnshire Council.
The upgraded training area is helping to increase opportunities for local people of all ages to get involved in cricket and enjoy the benefits of physical activity and teamwork.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We are committed to enabling communities to thrive and improving access to health and wellbeing opportunities. Supporting sports clubs like Barton Town Cricket Club not only encourages more people to stay active, but it also brings families together and strengthens community spirit.”
Located at the Marsh Lane playing fields, the project has delivered a brand-new, all-weather training facility featuring a non-turf pitch, enclosed practice lanes, and high-specification safety netting. The space is designed to provide a safe and inclusive environment for junior and senior players.
Cllr Richard Hannigan, cabinet member for adults and health, said: “This new training facility will be a real asset for the Barton area. Having high-quality, accessible sports infrastructure helps people of all ages to lead active lives, improving both physical and mental health.”
Since launching in 2011, the Community Grant Fund has pumped millions into grassroots projects across the region – from sports clubs and youth groups to charities and parish councils – helping to strengthen communities and support local talent.
Grants are available for junior and youth groups, charitable bodies, co-operatives, not-for-profit organisations, and individuals demonstrating excellence in sport, art, or culture. Support is also available for venue hire, helping keep community spaces open and active.
