More children in South Ferriby will now be able to attend nursery close to home following the creation of new places at South Ferriby Primary School.

The new nursery space has been created through a council-backed extension to the school, helping meet growing demand from families and giving more children the opportunity to benefit from early years education before starting school.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Making sure children get the best possible start in life is one of the most important things we can do.

“Expanding nursery provision in villages like South Ferriby means more families can access high-quality early education close to home, helping children build the confidence and skills they need before starting school.”

The new unit provides a bright and flexible environment where young children can learn, explore and play, including:

  • A spacious classroom linked to the existing foundation unit
  • Dedicated toilets and changing facilities for early years provision
  • A covered outdoor area supporting indoor and outdoor learning throughout the day
  • Improvements to the school’s entrance, creating a more welcoming space for families and visitors.

Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and communities, added: “These places lay the foundation for everything that follows. This new nursery space means children in South Ferriby can learn, play and develop in a modern environment designed to support their growth and wellbeing.”

Rebecca Alavi, executive headteacher at South Ferriby Primary School, said: “We are incredibly proud to open our new nursery room and excited that our youngest children now have a dedicated space designed with their needs at the heart of it.

“The additional space means we can welcome more three-year-olds into the school and support them as they grow in confidence before moving into Reception. We would like to thank our parents and pupils for their patience during the building work, and the team at TG Sowerby Developments for delivering the project so successfully.”

The project was delivered ahead of schedule by local contractor TG Sowerby Developments, supporting the local economy while delivering improved facilities for families in the village.
