Children and young people across North Lincolnshire will have more opportunities than ever to enjoy a fun, active and memorable summer thanks to North Lincolnshire Council’s investment in a wide range of holiday activities and experiences.

Working alongside sports clubs, village organisations, arts groups, charities and community projects, the council is supporting dozens of organisations to deliver free activities and healthy meals for eligible children and young people throughout the school holidays.

From creating murals in Winterton and making puppets from recycled materials in Scunthorpe, to stitching together Barrow’s history through a community tapestry and helping produce a feature-length documentary celebrating 125 years of Scunthorpe United, there are activities to inspire children of all interests and abilities.

The council has invested almost £400,000 in a programme that will ensure children and young people across both urban and rural communities can access exciting opportunities close to home throughout the summer holidays.

Families can also make the most of free-swimming sessions available over the summer, helping children stay active, healthy and entertained while spending quality time with friends and family.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We want every child in North Lincolnshire to have the chance to enjoy a fantastic summer, make new friends, learn new skills and create lasting memories.

“That’s why we’ve chosen to invest in an extensive programme of activities across our communities, alongside free swimming and healthy meals, giving children and young people access to opportunities that are fun, enriching and accessible.

“Behind every activity are dedicated local organisations and volunteers who work incredibly hard to make a difference, and we’re proud to support them in delivering such a varied and exciting programme for local families.”

Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for Ashby, Bottesford and Scunthorpe, said: “This investment is all about giving children and young people more opportunities during the school holidays. Community organisations know their neighbourhoods and understand what local families want, and they’ve created an excellent programme that reflects the communities they serve.

“I would encourage eligible families to take a look at what’s available and make the most of the activities on offer.”

Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for market towns and rural communities, said: “School holidays should be full of opportunities to have fun, be active and try new things, and that’s exactly what this programme delivers.

“Whether it’s taking part in sport, getting creative, enjoying free swimming or joining community projects, there is something for everyone. Every session also includes a healthy meal, helping children stay active and supported throughout the summer.”

The programme includes sport, creative arts, outdoor learning, performing arts, healthy lifestyle activities, community projects and free-swimming opportunities, with every eligible session including a healthy meal.
