North Lincolnshire Museum will welcome mystery family visitors this summer as it competes for a national award celebrating the UK’s most family-friendly heritage attractions.
The Scunthorpe-based Museum has been shortlisted for the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Museum Award 2025 in the Best Small Museum category. It is the only museum award in the UK judged entirely by families themselves.
Throughout the summer holidays, undercover family judges will visit the shortlisted venues to experience the museum just like any visitor would. Their feedback will help decide the national winners, due to be announced in October.
Rose Nicholson, Heritage Manager at North Lincolnshire Museum, said:
“We are thrilled to be shortlisted for this award, especially as it reflects the views of families who visit us. The team work hard to make the museum welcoming and accessible for visitors of all ages, so it’s fantastic to see those efforts recognised. We would like to thank everyone who nominated us.”
Operated by North Lincolnshire Council, the museum showcases the region’s rich and fascinating history, from its geological origins to the present day. Alongside its galleries and exhibitions, it offers a varied programme of family-friendly activities including weekly crafts, artefact handling sessions and lunchtime talks.
Earlier this year, the museum also celebrated success at the Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards, picking up both the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year and the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award, further recognising its commitment to providing an outstanding visitor experience.
Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for culture, heritage, and arts (urban), said:
“This is fantastic recognition for the museum and a real reflection of the dedication and creativity of the whole team. North Lincolnshire has a great story to tell, and the museum brings that to life in a way that’s accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all ages. Being shortlisted for this award highlights the excellent work taking place to celebrate our heritage and encourage more people to visit.”
Families across North Lincolnshire are encouraged to visit the museum this summer, discover the exhibitions and enjoy the wide range of activities on offer, and who knows, you might even find yourself visiting alongside one of the mystery judges.
