Councillor Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, has welcomed the decision by the Government to extend the Household Support Fund (HSF) over the coming winter months.
The scheme was due to finish at the end of September.
Cllr Waltham, said: “I am pleased that the Government has finally recognised the importance of the Household Support Fund and the vital help it gives to residents in need – especially older people and families.
“We will pledge to use this money locally to support our most vulnerable residents in these particularly difficult times when energy bills are rising and other household costs continue to increase.
“With tens of thousands of pensioners in North Lincolnshire due to miss out on the winter fuel payment, many older people are rightly worried about if they will be able to heat their homes or even eat one square meal a day.
“While HSF does not come anywhere near to replacing the financial hit local pensioners will take, it will help the council support thousands of residents who need it most”.
