Local people are being urged to invest in our children’s future by helping raise £700,000 so solar panels can be installed on even more buildings across the region.
The cash is being raised with a community share offer, meaning buying shares in North Lincolnshire Community Energy.
The money goes towards clean energy projects – and shareholders receive a minimum five per cent return on their investment.
You can invest as little as £50, and shares can be bought and held in trust for children and grand-children too.
North Lincolnshire investors will also get the chance to apply for a free year-long pass to Normanby Hall Country Park, helping them appreciate the beauty our local environment has to offer.
Local youngsters recently got the chance to discover more about solar power at a fun drop-in workshop in North Lincolnshire Museum.
They learned how to propel a toy car around a racetrack and how solar panels can be used to heat water and power lights.
The workshop was held in the museum because it was one of the buildings to have solar panels installed this year, cutting energy bills, saving CO2 and helping the council towards its aim of reaching net zero by 2030.
Other buildings that have had solar panels fitted include Ashby Hub, the Baths Hall, Normanby Gateway, Scunthorpe United’s Attis Arena, John Leggott college and 12 other school sites.
The Baths Hall alone will be saving £15,000 a year on energy bills and local schools have saved more than £190,000 to date.
Cllr David Rose, cabinet member for Environment, said: “I really hope a lot of local people come on board with this share offer.
“It isn’t just about investing a bit of money, it is helping our environment, tackling emissions and improving energy resilience. This is a way we can all do our bit to protect the planet.”
The first phase of installations was funded by the council via a Towns Fund Grant. This was followed up with a share offer in 2023 that raised £585,112.
This latest share offer will help fund future projects on Lindsey Lodge Hospice, Kingfisher Lodge Children’s Home and St Bede’s and St Bernadette’s schools – with many more schemes in the pipeline.
