Barton-upon-Humber is now home to two Green Flag parks after the Humber Bridge Viewing Area joined the award-winning Baysgarth Park in receiving the prestigious national accolade.

The Humber Bridge Viewing Area has secured the prestigious national award for the first time, giving the town two parks recognised among the country’s best.

Across North Lincolnshire, five parks and green spaces have been recognised this year, with Central Park, Jubilee Park and Woodlands Memorial Gardens also receiving Green Flag status.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “For Barton to have two Green Flag parks is something the town can be incredibly proud of.

“Baysgarth Park has long been recognised as one of the area’s finest parks and it’s fantastic to see the Humber Bridge Viewing Area now joining it with the same national recognition.

“These awards don’t happen by accident. They reflect years of investment by the council, the hard work of our parks teams and the commitment of local volunteers who help care for these special places.

“Whether people want somewhere to walk, play, exercise or simply enjoy some time outdoors, these parks make Barton an even better place to live and visit.”

The Humber Bridge Viewing Area has become one of North Lincolnshire’s most popular visitor destinations, offering panoramic views across the Humber Estuary alongside walking routes, picnic areas and open green space beneath one of the world’s most iconic bridges.

Baysgarth Park continues to attract families, walkers and visitors throughout the year with its landscaped gardens, play facilities, historic setting and links to Baysgarth House Museum.

Cllr Paul Vickers is a Barton ward member and chair of the Friends of Baysgarth Park group. He said: “This is excellent news for Barton. Having two Green Flag parks demonstrates the quality of green spaces the town has to offer.

“I want to thank the Friends of Baysgarth Park and the volunteers who support our parks. Their dedication makes a real difference and has played an important part in achieving this recognition.”

Across North Lincolnshire, five parks and green spaces have now achieved Green Flag status, recognising the high standards of management, maintenance and community involvement that help make them outstanding places to visit.

This year’s awards also mark the 30th anniversary of the Green Flag Award scheme, managed by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
