Residents across the Isle of Axholme are being invited to have their say on proposals to have the area officially recognised for its outstanding natural beauty.

The plans would help to protect Crowle, Belton, Epworth and more rural villages – areas home to rare and valuable ecological and cultural landscapes.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We want to protect the landscape across the Isle of Axholme now and into the future – it is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and we are pressing ahead to ensure it is properly recognised as such.

“We are already working to ensure an extension to the Lincolnshire Wolds and this next development will form part of a broader commitment to protecting and enhancing our natural environment for generations to come.”

Achieving Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status would help to preserve habitats, as well as some of the most extensive surviving medieval strip field systems in the country, and more.
