Young people will pay just £1.50 for single bus journeys within North Lincolnshire and have access to free swimming sessions during the school summer holidays.
Kickstart your summer holidays by travelling across North Lincolnshire via bus and visit Normanby Hall Country Park, NL Active leisure centres, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Vue cinema, North Lincolnshire Museum, Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre and our amazing market towns and villages or visit friends and family for only £1.50.
The scheme, for those aged between five and 19 years-old, will make it more affordable for families travelling with young children to get out and about during the holidays, with single bus tickets capped at a maximum of £1.50 for children and £3 for adults. (Children travelling unaccompanied do so at the discretion of the parent/carer and the bus driver).
Under 16s can also enjoy free swimming this summer as part of the ‘Summer Daze’ sessions.
Free swimming is available at six pools across North Lincolnshire, including The Pods, Riddings Community Hub, Ancholme Leisure Centre, Axholme North Leisure Centre, Baysgarth Community Hub, and Epworth Swimming Pool.
The following rules are in place to help us maintain water safety at all swimming pools in North Lincolnshire:
· A responsible adult aged 18 and over must accompany every child under the age of four-years-old.
· A responsible adult aged 18 and over must accompany children aged between four and seven years inclusive, with no more than two children to every adult.
· Children aged eight and over can swim unaccompanied.
Summer Daze free swims for children aged eight to 16 need to be booked in advance. Families attending the free swims, or parents bringing children aged under eight, just need to check in at reception when you arrive at the leisure centre.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We are working hard to support our families at this difficult financial time. We know parents, grandparents and carers really struggle with the cost of looking after families through the summer holidays, that is why we are continuing to invest in support our residents with lower cost or free things to do throughout August.”
Cllr Julie Reed, strategic lead for public transport, said: “I am delighted that we are bringing back these two brilliant schemes for the summer for our young people in North Lincolnshire. We have been offering free swimming sessions for many years, and they continue to be extremely popular. It’s a fantastic way for children to have fun with their friends and family in a secure, lifeguard-supervised environment in contrast to the risks that come from open water swimming.”
“Last year we saw thousands of young people take advantage of the discounted bus journeys to get out and about with their friends and family during the holidays, so we are bringing them back to encourage more young people to use public transport. We have made improvements to our bus network including improving services recently to make public transport even more accessible.”
