North Lincolnshire Council has awarded funding to Brigg Town Council to support the purchase of an eco-composter toilet for one of the town’s allotment sites.
A £587 community grant enabled the new facility to be installed, improving the site’s accessibility for allotment holders and making the space more sustainable.
The support is part of the council’s community grant scheme, which provides funding to local organisations to help deliver improvements that benefit residents.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is a great example of how relatively small amounts of funding can make a big difference in communities. The eco toilet will improve facilities for allotment holders while also being environmentally friendly, showing how we can support both people and the planet through local investment.”
Eco composter toilets work without mains water or drainage, instead using natural processes to break down waste into compost. This makes them an environmentally friendly option, particularly well-suited to allotments and other community spaces.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural), said: “Allotments play an important role in rural communities, giving people the opportunity to grow their own produce, spend time outdoors and connect with others. This investment in facilities will make the site more accessible for everyone who uses it.”
