North Lincolnshire Council has awarded a £10,552 community grant to the Humberside Chinese Association to fund the replacement of flooring in their Scunthorpe-based community centre – a vital hub for cultural celebration, education, and social inclusion.

The funding will enable the association to replace worn flooring in the main hall, improving safety and comfort for the hundreds of local residents who use the space for language classes, cultural events, senior activities, public gatherings and more.

The grant forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to support community groups and enhance local facilities, ensuring they remain accessible and welcoming for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The Humberside Chinese Association is a valued part of our community, and this funding will help them continue the fantastic work they do in promoting culture, education, and bringing communities together in North Lincolnshire.

“This investment will help ensure their centre remains a safe, welcoming space for many more years to come. It’s another example of how we’re backing local groups who are working hard to bring people together and makes North Lincolnshire such a vibrant, inclusive place to live.”

The Humberside Chinese Association has served the local community for over 30 years, welcoming people from all backgrounds to learn, share, and celebrate Chinese culture and heritage.

The funding has come from North Lincolnshire Council’s Community Grant Scheme, which backs local groups and projects that help communities thrive. To find out more about the scheme, including how to apply, visit the North Lincolnshire Council website.

Since its enhancement in 2011, North Lincolnshire Council’s Community Grant Fund has channelled millions of pounds into community-led projects. From youth groups and charities to town and parish councils, hundreds of initiatives have benefited – each one a testament to the resilience and creativity of local residents.

Grants are available for junior and youth groups, charitable bodies, co-operatives, not-for-profit organisations, and individuals demonstrating excellence in sport, art, or culture.
