North Lincolnshire’s youngsters have been sprinkling festive magic by entering our Christmas card competition – and now the winners have been revealed.
Congratulations to Isaac from Winterton Juniors (Year 3/4), whose incredibly colourful design has been chosen as this year’s official North Lincolnshire Council Christmas card.
Isaac will also enjoy a truly unforgettable moment this Saturday (22 November) when he joins the Mayor on stage to help switch on the Christmas lights!
Our fabulous runner-up, Izzie from Killingholme Primary (Year 2), impressed the judges with her super-festive artwork, which will feature on our digital Christmas card alongside Isaac’s winning design.
The competition saw a flurry of paint, colour and creativity from local schools. The judges praised the variety of entries and said the standards were very high, with lots of entries full of charm, imagination and Christmas joy.
“The talent in our local schools is outstanding,” said lead judge Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for independent families – children. “Isaac and Izzie’s designs really capture the joy of Christmas, and we’re delighted to share their work with the whole community.
“Well done to every pupil who took part – their creativity has made this year’s Christmas card extra special, and the competition is a wonderful way of involving local communities in the festive celebrations.”
A selection of highly commended designs will also get their moment in the spotlight, appearing on the slideshow on the big screen at the back of the stage during the Christmas lights switch-on event.
This Saturday’s switch-on promises a magical start to the season: Andrew Van Buren will amaze audiences with magic, the panto cast will bring plenty of Christmas fun while Back Chat Brass and Henry will fill the town centre with music.
Father Christmas and Mrs Christmas will be joining us along with a few cheeky appearances from The Grinch.
There is so much more going on – proceedings kick off at 3.30pm, with the countdown starting just before 6pm.
It’s the perfect way for families to start the Christmas season together!
