More children with additional needs will be able to stay in their local community to learn, grow and thrive thanks to a new Study Hub at Killingholme Primary School.
The hub will provide up to 10 places for pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 who need a more adaptable, nurturing environment but do not require a specialist placement.
It is the sixth Study Hub opened by the council in collaboration with schools, the first in a primary school. The hub joins others already in place in secondaries in Scunthorpe, Ashby, Barton and Winterton.
It also comes alongside the expansion of Specialist Resource Provisions (SRPs) across mainstream schools, now operating in five schools with three more planned for 2026.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Families rightly want their children to be supported close to home and this new hub helps make that possible by giving pupils with additional needs the right support in the heart of their community.”
Study Hubs offer smaller groups, specially trained staff and dedicated spaces so children receive the support they need while staying connected to their home, school and friends.
SRPs provide designated specialist support for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), enabling them to access a broad curriculum alongside tailored help within their school.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children, families and communities, said: “This is about helping every child to belong, to thrive and to stay rooted in their own community. Killingholme is a great step forward – and we’re continuing to expand support where families need it most.
“These new provisions mean children can get the right help without being taken away from familiar faces and routines. It strengthens families, builds confidence and makes day-to-day life easier for everyone.”
Study Hubs and SRPs each play a different part, but together they provide a single, simple commitment: whatever a child’s needs, support is available in their own community so they can succeed in their local school.
