Bins, Waste and Recycling

Whilst many people are planning for when the kids go back to school or going back to work, there is still time to get away from it all over the bank holiday weekend.

Whether it be camping in the countryside or a day at the beach, it is important to remember to follow the current guidelines to stop covid and prevent local outbreaks. The latest advice can be found on the GOV.UK website.

North Lincolnshire Council is also asking people to do their bit for the environment by reducing waste and recycling where possible.

From planning a journey, to reaching your destination there are many ways to reuse and recycle whilst you are on your travels.

When packing, fill reusable containers with toiletries rather than buying the travel-sized options and use rechargeable batteries for electrical items that you want to take with you. They are much better for the environment and over time will work out to be cheaper.

If you have a long drive ahead of you and plan to take lunch and snacks in the car or when planning a picnic you could use reusable containers rather than buying prepacked. This includes taking drinks in reusable bottles.

You can then fill your reusable drink bottles with water and freeze them, a perfect way to keep hydrated and cool. If you purchase single use bottles make sure you reuse them or recycle them correctly, this will help reduce the amount of waste and save you money.

Whilst you are away on holiday it is worth familiarising yourself with the local recycling rules as different council’s may accept different materials in different containers, but you will be able to do your bit for the environment wherever you are.
