Council Tax scam – don’t get caught out

Residents of North Lincolnshire are being targeted in a Council Tax scam.

Council Tax payers are being cold called and advised that they have been paying too much Council Tax. They are being told they are due a refund as their property is in the wrong Council Tax band. The caller then offers to claim the refund on their behalf for a fee that is payable ‘up front’.

We are urging anyone who receives an email, text or phone call offering this service not to give any personal information, bank account details or credit/debit card details.

Further information on how to avoid Council Tax scams can be found on the GOV.UK website.
