Businesses based in Barton-upon-Humber are welcoming back customers, as North Lincolnshire Council and the town’s traders work together to make shopping locally both welcoming and safe.

A week after restrictions on non-essential shops was lifted, customers have been returning and respecting social distancing guidelines.

Government funding has been used to establish pavement and street signs to help people travel around the town centre.

Karen Sinclair, of greengrocers Crisp ‘N’ Fresh, on King Street, said footfall so far had been encouraging:

“We have seen a continuous number of people shopping local, which we encourage to contain the virus.”

At nearby Bensons Butchers, also on King Street, Angelo Monopoli added:

“Customers have been abiding by the social distancing rules, and we have the footsteps outside the shop to guide them.”
