This year will see the millionth Imagination Library book delivered free to children in North Lincolnshire – so it’s more important than ever that anyone who isn’t yet registered does so now to be in with a chance of getting the very special millionth book along with a raft of fantastic prizes.
Throughout 2023 the 10th anniversary of Imagination Library in North Lincolnshire was celebrated with a fantastic Year of Reading.
Since its launch in 2013 more than 976,000 free books have been delivered to over 27,000 local children with North Lincolnshire delivering a sixth of all Imagination Library books in the whole of the UK.
North Lincolnshire Council will continue to fund the scheme, which delivers a free book each month to every child under five, supporting them to develop a love of books and reading for pleasure.
Parents have praised the scheme, which is funded by the council:
“The books have given my daughter and son access to new worlds, new stories, fed their imaginations and given this mum a lot of precious joyful moments that we will cherish for our lifetime. Thank you.”
Data shows that children in North Lincolnshire who are registered with the Imagination Library perform better at the end of Early Years Foundation Stage, in the phonics screening check and in assessments at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I am proud that the council has invested in our future generations by funding North Lincolnshire’s Imagination Library for 11 years now.
“The books selected really are fantastic, they depict real lives and provide the families that receive them with lots of opportunities.
“It’s really exciting to be approaching the millionth book delivered. One lucky reader will not only have the honour of receiving that millionth book but they will also receive a raft of wonderful prizes when that happens.”
It is completely free to join North Lincolnshire’s Imagination library and siblings can register individually to each receive their own age appropriate book every month. Every child receives The Tale of Peter Rabbit as a welcome book with a special message from Dolly Parton in the front.
