Flooding and other emergencies

Strategic Water Management Board

The council and its partner agencies have established the Strategic Water Management Board (SWMB) to deal with key water and flood related matters in North Lincolnshire.

The key roles and responsibilities of the board include:

  • Overall responsibility – to facilitate high level discussions to ensure compliance with National Flood Risk Management Strategy
  • Promote co-ordinated approaches to flood and coastal risk management investment, planning and delivery across North Lincolnshire integrated with arrangements for emergency response
  • Maximise opportunities to influence partner strategies and resource allocation. For example, providing a forum where issues identified as barriers to economic growth can be resolved, whether its land allocation or development proposal related
  • Provide a focal point for liaison with the delivery arms of all relevant partner organisations (particularly highways, planning, strategic planning and building control services), Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards, water and sewerage companies, developers, statutory undertakers, emergency services, riparian landowners and developers, to facilitate enhanced joint working between partners
  • Support the Local Resilience Forum; ensuring lessons learned from emergency incidents inform approach to long-term flood and drainage management, particularly regarding resilience and planning.

The SWMB meet on a quarterly basis with its partner agencies.
