Carer respite offers

Taking regular breaks is essential for Carers to maintain their wellbeing and continue in their caring role.

Ashby Haven and Nicholas House provide flexible care for the person you support – from a few hours to short stays. Enjoy peace of mind knowing they are safe and well cared for while you rest, attend appointments, focus on your wellbeing, or take a well-deserved break.

What Is the Ashby Haven Offer?

Ashby Haven provides Carers with the option for the person they care for to have a short stay in a self-contained studio apartment within Ashby Meadows, Ashby.

Ashby Meadows is an Extra Care housing scheme offering bright and modern apartments for people aged 55 and over. The setting includes beautiful landscaped gardens, a welcoming resident lounge, and a range of shared facilities such as a salon, library and hobby areas. There is also a guest room for visiting friends or family, along with an onsite restaurant and dining area. Ashby Meadows benefits from easy access to local shops, transport links and community amenities.

The service is supported by an onsite manager and care team, with care and support available within the setting should the person you care for need it.

Studio Apartment

Guests will have access to a comfortable, fully furnished studio, including:

  • Adjustable single bed and bedding
  • Accessible ensuite shower – includes shower stool
  • Small kitchen area with microwave, air fryer, kettle, fridge and TV
  • Wi-fi and pendant alarm
  • Lovely views of the grounds

Communal Facilities

(Charges may apply for some amenities)

  • Dining room / restaurant
  • Lounge spaces
  • Laundry facilities
  • Gardens and outdoor areas
  • Hobby rooms
  • Hairdresser
  • Assisted bathing facilities

Care and Support

Support is provided by Hales Group Limited or the person’s usual care provider where possible. Depending on need, support may include:

  • Personal care
  • Medication support
  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Wellbeing checks
  • Access to activities and social engagement
  • Up to four care calls per day
  • Technology to support communication with friends and family

Existing care packages will continue where possible.

Meals

Guests can choose how they would like to eat during their stay:

  • Prepare meals in the studio’s kitchen area
  • Purchase meals in the onsite restaurant – A menu and price list are provided, and meals must be ordered the day before
  • Continue meal support from an existing provider if appropriate

Things to do and social time

Residents and guests have access to a variety of activities such as:

  • Coffee mornings
  • Games sessions
  • Social evenings
  • Exercise and wellbeing sessions
  • Arts, crafts and hobby groups

A newsletter and “What’s On” guide are provided on arrival.

Location and Accessibility

Ashby Meadows is located in Ashby, Scunthorpe with excellent access to:

  • Local supermarkets
  • Ashby High Street shops
  • Scunthorpe town centre
  • Parks and visitor attractions
  • Bus routes (200 yards)
  • GP practice (200 yards)

The entire site is wheelchair accessible.

What to Bring

Full information will be provided ahead of the stay by the Carers Team – To ensure comfort during the stay, guests should bring:

  • Clothes
  • Medication and dressings
  • Money for meals or activities
  • Toiletries
  • Any essential equipment
  • Books or magazines
  • Food items if needed

On arrival, guests are met by the onsite care providers, shown around the building, provided with keys, safety information, and details about activities and meal bookings.

Costs

Whilst there is a cost for the delivery of this service, where you are deemed eligible through a carers assessment there may be no charge. This includes:

  • Utilities
  • TV licence
  • Laundry of studio items
  • Cleaning of the studio

Charges may apply for meals, hairdressing, or some activities.

How to Apply or Book

For more information or to make a booking, please contact the Carer Team using the details below. Some offers may have eligibility criteria, and a Carers Assessment may be required.

Check-in is from 11am, with departure by 7pm on the final day. Before your stay, guests will be asked to sign a Licence to Occupy, and the Carer Team will be on hand to support you with this.

Your participation helps shape the future of respite services for Carers in North Lincolnshire. We’ll be collecting feedback from Carers, guests, staff, and providers throughout, so your views can help improve the offer for everyone.

Nicholas House, Haxey – Carer Respite Day Offer

Nicholas House offers Carers a daytime break (full, half-day, or a few hours), knowing the person they care for is safe, supported, and having a positive day. In a welcoming community setting, people can relax, enjoy activities, and spend time with others. The service also connects Carers with the local Carer community to provide support and make future transitions easier.

The Nicholas House Carer Break Day Offer is currently being trialled in the Isle area. The pilot will help shape future plans, with the aim to expand across North Lincolnshire.

What’s included in the offer?

Care and support

  • Support provided by trained and experienced staff
  • Care tailored to person’s needs and preferences
  • Support with personal care if required
  • A calm, reassuring environment throughout the day

Meals

  • Meals and refreshments provided during the day
  • Dietary needs and preferences can be discussed in advance

Things to do and social time

  • Opportunities to take part in activities
  • Time to relax or enjoy quiet space if preferred

Location and accessibility

  • Based in Haxey in the Isle area
  • Accessible building with appropriate facilities
  • Accessibility needs can be discussed at the point of enquiry

  • Referrals can also be made by professionals
