Families are set to still enjoy plenty of Christmas fun and games in Scunthorpe tomorrow as the Christmas Light Switch On has been given the green light.

Storm Bert is predicted to see high winds across the area so Scunthorpe’s Light Switch On has been moved into St John’s Market.

The stage in Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens will not be put up, however most of the entertainers will still perform in venues across the town centre. There will be lots of activities for families to do across the town from 10am.

The lights will still be switched on at 5.30 pm at St John’s Market.

Highlights include:

Step into a Victorian-themed wonderland at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre. Snap a selfie in front of the beautiful Christmas scene in the Vestry of the former St. John’s Church, enjoy hands-on Victorian arts and crafts from 10am, and treat yourself to a festive treat from the special Christmas menu in the café.

Those looking to pick up a special gift should explore the gallery shop, filled with handcrafted treasures from independent artists – perfect for present shopping! You may even spot the Victorian Father Christmas!

Little ones have lots of opportunities to meet Santa in Scunthorpe town centre. Post your letter to Santa in St John’s Market and head upstairs to meet the man himself in his cosy grotto between 11am and 3pm. Tickets cost £7 per child and there is no need to book.

As you explore the market be sure to visit the Christmas Fair – it’s a great chance to shop local and pick up those stocking fillers, all while enjoying some festive live music and entertainment.

Just a short walk away, Scunthorpe Central will be hosting activities throughout the afternoon, including a Victorian choir, a face painter and a Snow White escape room.

Don’t miss the free family trail around the library for your chance to win a fabulous Christmas hamper! Simply find all the points on the trail and post your entry into the magical Christmas post box, and the lucky winner could be you!

The activities are drop in, apart from the escape room which you can book online. Hurry, only limited spaces remain.

Whilst in town, visitors have the chance to chat to the fostering team and make Christmas crafts.
