Families across North Lincolnshire will benefit from additional support to ensure children have the essentials they need for the school year ahead, with new funding being distributed directly to schools.
The funding will help schools support families with the cost of essential items such as winter coats, shoes, uniforms and other school-readiness items.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We want every child to arrive at school ready to learn and thrive. By placing this funding directly with schools, we’re giving them the tools to support families in the way that works best locally.
“This is a practical investment in the things that matter – strengthening communities, supporting families and helping children get the very best start in life.”
Allocations are based on pupil data but schools are able to use the funding flexibly to meet needs that arise throughout the school year.
This support sits alongside the wider programme of help for older people and families through the Household Support Fund, including energy-efficient cooking appliances, low-energy essentials and targeted financial assistance for those most in need.
Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for transformation and sustainability, said: “Schools know the circumstances of their pupils and families better than anyone. This funding gives them the flexibility to provide timely, sensitive support where it can make the biggest difference.
“Whether it’s a winter coat, a pair of shoes or other essential items, this help will ensure children can focus on learning without barriers.
“We’re targeted this money to have real impact for every community and every resident that needs just that little of help.”
