Stay safe during Severn Trent’s emergency works

Severn Trent are carrying out emergency remedial works on the sewer beneath the A18 Doncaster Road in Scunthorpe.

Over the last couple of months, Severn Trent have been repairing the sewer and further investigation work showed that the sewer under Doncaster Road is in danger of collapse and is in urgent need of replacement.

As such, they have had to close the road near Berkeley Circle, between Hilton Avenue and the Berkeley Business Centre to carry out these emergency repairs.

The diversion route takes vehicles along the A1077 and then either along Luneburg Way and Scotter Road (for cars and motorbikes), or along Brigg Road, Queensway and Kingsway (for HGVs).

Drivers are asked to follow the diversions and, for the safety of residents, not cut through Hilton Avenue or Ferry Road West.

To ease traffic flow, the lights on the A1077 have been amended to prioritise this route and support the diverted traffic. As such, vehicles waiting to turn onto the A1077 from Ferry Road West will have to wait longer. This will cause minimal disruption to residents in this area but will cause longer delays if vehicles use the road to cut the corner of the diversion.

Vehicles are also not permitted to turn right from the A1077 onto Ferry Road West during the works, to ensure traffic is free-flowing.

Access to Hilton Road from Burn Road is for residents only. Hilton Road has been closed at the junction with Doncaster Road.

Please do not ignore road closures, which are in place for the safety of pedestrians, Severn Trent’s contractors, and other road users.

Alternative routes for driving to Doncaster Road/Gallagher Retail Park/North Lincolnshire Retail Park:

  • From Brigg and surrounding areas travel along the M180 (westbound) and exit at junction 3 for the M181
  • From Ashby and Bottesford travel through Burringham via Burringham Road and then onto A18 Gunness Straight
  • Any other areas should use the diversion route via Scotter Road, Luneburg Way and A1077
