Residents in East Halton are a step closer to seeing College Road reopen, with major repair work progressing well and the project remaining on track for completion on 3 July.
The biggest part of the project has now been completed, with the damaged embankment successfully rebuilt and stabilised after a badger sett undermined the road’s foundations and forced its closure.
Attention has now turned to reconstructing the road itself, with crews moving into the final phase of the project ahead of the planned reopening this summer.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m sure this will be a welcome update for residents in East Halton and the surrounding villages who have been affected by the closure.
“We know this has been a long process and we’re grateful for the patience people have shown while we worked through the challenges involved in delivering such a complex repair.
“The good news is that we’re now on the final stretch. The embankment has been rebuilt, work on the road is well underway, and we remain on track to reopen College Road on 3 July.
“Every day this road has been closed has had an impact on local people, so we’re looking forward to seeing it reopened and reconnecting communities once again.”
The project has seen the road rebuilt from the ground up, including major work to repair and strengthen the embankment, helping to secure the route for the long term.
Further updates will be shared as the project approaches completion.
