Get ready for a day of discovery as Discover returns to Scunthorpe on Saturday 12 July 2025, from 11am to 4pm.
This fantastic free family event will be popping up across Church Square, Scunthorpe Central Library, the Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire, and 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.
Dive into a World of STREAM Fun
This year, Discover is all about STREAM – that’s Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Maths – with dozens of exhibits and hands-on activities designed to get children aged five to thirteen playing, participating, and thinking.
Launching the Summer Reading Challenge
We’re also excited to launch the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge: Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors. This year’s theme will inspire children to explore the magical connection between storytelling and nature, unlocking their imagination through reading.
What’s On?
Get ready for a jam-packed day of exploration and creativity:
- Church Square will be buzzing with three performances of The Soapsud Sisters by the brilliant Rhubarb Theatre. Young visitors can also get their hands dirty with planting activities, learn how to grow their own runner beans, and pick up handy gardening tips.
- Scunthorpe Central Library is your place to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge. There will also be a whole host of reading-inspired activities, including live storytelling, a quiet area for those who prefer a calm space, fun activities based on the work of Nick Sharratt, and even the chance to create cardboard houses inspired by The Three Little Pigs.
- The Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire is opening its doors for exciting science experiments and hands-on activities. Try a fascinating DNA workshop with Lab Rascals (bookable on the day), test your skills with miniature golf, and take part in some brain-teasing STEM challenges.
- 20-21 Visual Arts Centre will be encouraging children to unleash their imaginations with creative and STEM-based activities. You can also get a first look at their brand-new Discover Centre.
Even More Activities to Explore
Look out for these brilliant activities happening throughout the day:
- Lab Rascals will be bringing the wonder of science to life:
- DNA Workshop: Explore the fascinating world of genetics and create models of DNA using sweets – you can even extract DNA from bananas.
- Filters & Prisms: Discover how white light creates spectacular rainbows.
- Glowing Solutions: Watch liquids glow under black light – it’s mesmerising!
