Scunthorpe’s St John’s Market welcomes more new traders

Two new traders have set up shop on the first floor of St John’s Market in Scunthorpe offering delicious food and unique children’s toys.

Brad’s Pizza opened on the first floor of the market on Friday 28 September. It offers a range of handmade pizza, a healthy salad bar, jacket potatoes with a range of fillings and Greek-inspired Gyros.

The owner, Brad Atkin is a local chef from Scunthorpe with experience of providing high quality food. He said:

“I’m excited to have a stall at St John’s Market. This is a brand new venture working for myself.

“I hope people will enjoy what we have on offer and I look forward to welcoming our customers. Our menu will complement the existing food available at the market, offering customers a greater choice when they visit.”

The Teddy Bear Factory opened on Tuesday 8 October where children – and adults, can build their own teddy bear or soft toys.

Jon Jarman and his business partner Xara Sanderson came up with the idea of launching the Teddy Bear Factory following the success of Jon’s other stalls on the market, the Phone Bar and Moo Moo’s. Jon said:

“St John’s Market is the perfect location for us to launch our new business. Being located next to the cinema, we will do special soft toys based on new films coming out.

“There are hundreds of different styles of teddy bears and soft toys for people to choose from that will be made on the stall.

“We plan to run different offers and discounts throughout the year, especially during times like Christmas and Easter.

“We have created a full time and part time job to run our new stall.”

An existing stallholder has moved to a bigger unit on the first floor. Taran’s Nut Free Tiffin has expanded and moved around the corner. Her stall is now called ‘Taran’s Nut Free Kitchen’. The new stall opened on Tuesday 8 October with cakes, sweet treats and sandwiches on offer – and delicious afternoon teas. Taran is also looking to expand her menu further.

St John’s Market opens Tuesday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm.

Cllr Richard Hannigan, cabinet member for place shaping, said:

“I would like to welcome Brad’s Pizza and the Teddy Bear Factory to St John’s Market. It is fantastic to see new traders getting on board and recognising the potential of the market as a place to do business.

“St John’s Market is in a great location in Scunthorpe town centre next to the bus station and multi-storey car park, and with free parking available during the week and all day at weekends, it is easy for people to access.

“Since the market opened in March visitors have been flocking through the door, which has increased the footfall in the town centre.

“St John’s Market is part of the wider plans to regenerate Scunthorpe town centre and we are set to invest further to carry out even more improvements. This is in addition to the Humber High Street Challenge Fund, Future High Streets Funding and the town deal for Scunthorpe.”
